Sure, there’s a sense in which mathematical constructs “exist,” but it seems like the whole point of 131:7 is to say that spirit is not just some platonic ideal, but is actual stuff.

I tend to think of “spirit” as “real, but not material.” Examples: 1. he number 37. It’s not a material thing (it has no mass, no location, no beginning or ending time), but it’s hard to say it doesn’t EXIST. 2. The Linux operating system (not any particular copy or representation, but the thing itself). It’s just a number, a big one, but no different in kind from the number 37. 3. The song “Good night, Irene.” Not any particular performance of it, nor a pieces of sheet music representing it, nor even a rendition in a particular key, but the song “itself.”

Now here’s a proof that such “spiritual” things are able to interact with the material world: a print driver is a piece of software, therefore actually just a massless, location-less, eternal being (i.e., a number), but it’s able to cause ink to squirt out on paper and even print out a representation of itself in a quiny kind of way.

In medieval times, scholars would have UNQUESTIONINGLY called a print driver an “angel.”

Good essay passages. I sure do miss Eugene England.
BTW Omnipotent translates pantokrator only in Rev 19:6. All the rest of the time it is translated as ‘Almighty.’ Panto means all and krator means a) force or strength b)power c) great works or deeds. So it could mean doer of all great works.
In the LXX it translates Elohim (or Jehovah) Sabbaoth : God (or Lord) of Hosts [ meaning all people, or all the army ].
NEITHER definition REQUIRES the idea of having the power to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.

There is hardly any unity among the "Bretheren" on this subject, as there has never been any revelation on the means by which God created the earth and the life on it. See, for example, this account. Since the advent of gene sequencing, evolution is demonstrable fact. Because the only other alternative is a deceptive God, I have to accept evolution. Why else would he put the same endogenous retrovirus across all mammals, another across only primates, and another across only the homo genus? We've actually seen such retrviruses enter the gene pool in koalas. If you deny this stuff, you're deluding yourself. It may very well be that in the Millenial state, different physics will apply. That's fine by me; I'd love to see how to get around the entropy problem. But the animals living on this world today, including humans, evolved.

I really enjoyed much of what you have written, but the evolution idea is quite false. According to many statements from the Brethren, a basic doctrine of the Fall is that death didn’t exist in the world until after the Adam. The majority of the theory of Evolution is based on the idea of “natural selection” whose most basic ingredient is death. If the strong survive, and the weak survive, and no one dies– “superior genes” cannot be concentrated down into one species, and eventually another, and another.
